Description

These easy bakery-style cinnamon rolls are made with store-bought dough, heavy cream, and brown sugar for an indulgent, gooey upgrade. Topped with a rich homemade cream cheese frosting, they taste just like they’re fresh from the bakery—without the extra time or effort. Perfect for holiday mornings, brunch, or a cozy treat!

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • Store bought Pillsbury Grands!
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Brown Sugar Mixture

  • 5 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Icing

  • 3 oz. cream cheese, softened (*see notes below)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • icing from cinnamon roll package

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Lightly grease your baking dish (I used a 3-quart round, but a 9×9 or 7×11 works great, too). Place the cinnamon rolls in the pan and pour the heavy cream evenly over the rolls, letting it fill any cracks and crevices.
  4. Spoon the brown sugar mixture on top of each roll, spreading it evenly.
  5. Cover the pan with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes until the rolls are cooked through. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes to brown the tops. *Remember these cinnamon rolls are meant to be on the gooey side.
  6. While the rolls bake, make the icing: Beat the softened cream cheese and butter on high for 1-2 minutes until fluffy. Add the vanilla and the icing from the cinnamon roll packages, then mix until combined. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
  7. Let the cinnamon rolls cool for about 10 minutes before spreading the icing on top. This lets the icing melt in just enough without soaking too much. (** see notes below)

Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, bakery-style goodness!

Notes

*If you’re short on time and your cream cheese isn’t softened, no worries! Just pop it in the microwave on the defrost setting for about 1 minute—worked perfectly for me.

** If you add the icing right away, the heat from the cinnamon rolls will cause it to melt and soak in. To keep that thick, creamy icing on top, let the rolls cool for a bit before spreading it on.
