Charming Light Switch Covers: A Simple Bedroom Upgrade
Looking for a simple way to elevate your bedroom without a major renovation? Upgrading to embossed light switch covers might be the perfect solution. In this post, I’ll share why I chose them during my bedroom makeover, how they transformed the space, and other small details to consider replacing in your home.
Our Farmhouse Bedroom Makeover
When we moved into our Teas Hill Country home in June, I knew I wanted to take my time making it truly feel like ours. Our bedroom, in particular, was a blank slate, white walls, and beige carpet with lots of natural light. I decided to approach it as a slow renovation project, focusing on one detail at a time. I started with a fresh coat of paint as an easy way to get a big impact.
While I had the light switch covers off for painting, I couldn’t help but notice how uninspiring they were. I painted the outlet covers the same color as the walls but I realized I wanted to upgrade the light switch covers and add a little extra charm and personality to my space in a simple way. This small detail has made a surprisingly big impact.
Finding the Right Covers
Light switch covers are such a small detail in your home, but they can make a surprisingly big impact. I love finding little opportunities around the house to add a personal touch and a bit of charm. When I started searching for light switch covers for our bedroom, I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking for, but I knew it had to bring character and style to the space.
Since I knew I wanted the light switch covers to have charm, I started my search with “antique light switch covers” all over the internet for inspiration.
A few months earlier I had ordered my daughters a brass paisley wall plate.
And although I like their light switch cover, it’s not exactly the vibe I wanted for my room. I liked the brass but wanted more detail.
I had also ordered an aged bronze plate for my son’s room.
And although this also works in their bedroom, it still wasn’t the right fit for my bedroom. I wanted something a little more whimsical and charming.
Of course, I took my search to Pinterest, because I’m a visual person and love looking through images. I typed in “antique light switch covers” when I ran across the two Anthropologie plates above, and the Joan, floral Switch Plate in Bronze, really spoke to me
I remember I had briefly looked at this switch plate for my daughter’s room over summer but had decided against it at the time. However, I couldn’t get this switch plate out of my mind. I spent a couple more days browsing covers and nothing compared.
My bedroom already had a floral print area rug, my curtains are floral embroidery, so I knew I had to get a floral inspired switch plate.
I was a bit unsure about choosing bronze since my curtain rods are black, but the green walls pair beautifully with the bronze finish, tying everything together.
Installation Tips
Replacing light switch covers is one of the easiest home updates you can do. All it takes is a screwdriver and a few minutes to swap out the old for something fresh and stylish. It’s a simple way to add personality to your space without any major effort!
Before and After: The Details
Before installing the embossed light switch cover, I had a simple plastic cover that was probably original to the house. Although there nothing in particular “wrong” with it, I just wanted something with a little more wow factor.
The image above really highlights just how much of a difference the embossed light switch cover makes in the space. What was once a simple piece now adds a layer of charm and character that ties the entire room together.
It’s such a small detail, but it has a surprisingly big impact, making the room feel more polished and intentional. The intricate design of the cover catches the eye and complements the other elements of the room, creating a cohesive, elevated look that makes the space feel truly finished. It’s amazing how such a small upgrade can instantly make a room feel more personalized and complete.
I’m thrilled with my choice of the Joan light switch cover from Anthropologie. It’s a sturdy, high-quality piece that feels timeless and built to last for years to come.
Small Details, Big Impact: Inspiring Easy Upgrades
The embossed light switch covers were just the beginning of my mission to add charm to our bedroom with thoughtful details. Now, I’m on the hunt for the perfect door knobs to continue the transformation. If you have any that you think would be the perfect fit with my current transformation, please send them my way!
It’s incredible how small changes like these can make such a big impact on the overall feel of a room.
When it comes to upgrades, it’s all about focusing on the little things that often go unnoticed. Consider swapping out lighting fixtures, door knobs, cabinet hardware, updating drawer pulls, or adding decorative hooks to walls.
Even changing out a plain vent cover or choosing unique outlet covers can add a layer of charm to your home. These small details may seem minor, but they work together to create a more cohesive and polished space. The best part? They’re budget-friendly and easy to tackle one at a time!
