11 C-Section Recovery Must-Haves for Comfort
A C-section recovery requires rest, support, and a little extra care. In this guide, I’m sharing the must-haves that made my postpartum recovery smoother, cozy essentials for comfort, practical items for healing, and little luxuries to help you feel cared for during this season of rest. Whether it’s the softest lounge sets, must-have postpartum care products, or tips for creating a peaceful recovery space, this list is designed to help you heal while embracing slow, intentional motherhood.

I still remember my very first c-section, I can’t help but to think back to how unprepared I felt after the surgery with the slow healing process, the discomfort, and the overwhelming mix of emotions that came with welcoming a newborn while also trying to rest myself.
Now, as I prepare for my 5th c-section, I’ve learned so much about what truly makes the recovery period smoother.
Over the years, I’ve found out that healing isn’t just about the medical care but also having a space of comfort, slowing down, and giving yourself a lot of grace.
There’s something about those early postpartum weeks, the soft blankets, the warm cups of cofffee (and tea), the quiet moments when the house is still, that make me appreciate the beauty of slowing down.
I’ve learned that a cozy, intentional recovery makes all the difference, and I want to share the must-have items that have helped me heal and feel cared for during this time.
Whether you’re a first-time c-section mom or going through it again, I hope this list brings you comfort and reassurance as you navigate your own recovery journey.
It’s those small comforts and easy access to essentials that can make the first few weeks so much smoother.
Healing Essentials for a Smooth Recovery
Recovering from a c-section isn’t just about resting (which let’s be honest, is already hard when you have a fresh baby at home) but it’s also about giving your body the care and support it needs to heal well.
Over the years I’ve learned that there are some essentials that can make a huge differences in how you feel physically and emotionally during those first few weeks.
From belly support to cozy loungewear that’s wont’ irritate your incision, having the right recovery items on hand can make healing smoother and more comfortable.
Here are the must-have essentials that have helped me recover after my c-sections and what I’m relying on this time around.
Belly Support Band
At the hospital, they’ll provide you with a belly support band, and I highly recommend using it.
After surgery, your core feels incredibly weak, you don’t realize how much you rely on those muscles until you can’t use them.
Although the hospital band was helpful, I actually prefered this one.
This band was very supportive and wore well under my clothes, whereas my hospital band always looked a little weird underneath my clothes.
Here are some other supportive binders options.
Postpartum Disposable Underwear
After your c-section the hospital will also provide you with mesh underwear during your stay. even though they sent some home with me I always wished I would’ve had more to wear a little longer during recovery.
With my first c-section, I tried using Depend Postpartum Underwear but I didn’t love them. I was so happy when I stumbled upon the Frida Mom postpartum disposable underwear for c-section recovery. I already have them stocked in my bathroom closet for this time around.
Postpartum Pads
Altong with the disposable postpartum underwear, you’ll also want a stash of pads. Regardless of the type of labor and delivery you have, you’ll have bleeding afterwards.
I have tried a variety of pads during my postpartum phases and this time around will be using the Frida Mom Postpartum Pads.
I’ve decided to go with this brand because not only are they a larger pad to catch it all but they also have side walls to help with leakproof coverage.
Peri Bottle
My hospital has always provided a peri bottle, that helps keep you clean without having to bend over after those first few days. If your hospital doesn’t provide one you’ll want to have one on hand. It makes your bathroom trips much easier and gentler while you heal.
Postpartum Underwear
Once you are feeling more confident and your body starts healing, you’ll be ready for postpartum underwear. However, you may find that the underwear you currently own irritates your c-section scar. I found high waisted underwear to be the most comfortable after my c-section.
This time around I found the Kindred Bravely high waisted underwear for a great price.
GasX
After the c-section with my second, I had the worst pain in my shoulder, I had no idea what was going on. Thankfully, my husband was able to quickly recognize it was trapped gas from my surgery and recommend GasX, which helped so much.
I cannot stress this one enough. While you’re at the hospital, the nurses are likely to provide this for you but once you’re home you’ll want to have some on hand.
Stool Softener
Since you had a c-section you’ll want something that makes going to the bathroom a little easier. You won’t want to be using your stomach muscles much those first few weeks.
I’d actually recommend starting a stool softener even before baby comes just to make things that much easier.
Post C-Section Clothing
After my c-sections I didn’t want to wear anything tight on my stomach. I largely lived in dresses/nightgowns and loose fitting clothing for the first few weeks.
I also breastfed all four babies and plan to do the same with this little one so I tried to make sure the dresses were nursing friendly.
Boppy Pillow
Although this one isn’t c-section specific, I loved having a Boppy pillow with me at the hospital. It made it so much easier holding baby without worrying about my incision.
The Boppy pillow was a lifesaver when it came to breastfeeding too. I could easily use it to prop up baby so I could feed without having to use my stomach muscles.
C-Section Kits
Although they didn’t have these with my first four c-sections, I’ve found several c-section kits on Amazon this time around.
I opted to order the Frida Mom Kit because it included all the items I’d be purchasing anyways and I saved a little money buying the bundle.
Silicone Sheets
I have heard great things about using silicone sheets after your c-section for scar healing. I’ve never used them in the past but plan to this time around.
You should consult your doctor before using them to determine if and when it’s safe to use yourself.

Creating a Cozy & Supportive Recovery Space
If you’re heading into a planned c-section, creating a space where you can recover comfortably can make all the difference too.
My first c-section was an emergency, and to say I was unprepared is an understatement.
I didn’t have a setup that made healing easier, I was struggling to get in and out of bed, searching for things I needed, and realizing too late how much rest my body truly needed.
I ended up sleeping on our couch because it was one of the few places I could easily get up and down without using my stomach muscles.
This time around, I knew I needed to be more intentional about my recovery space.
I’ve set up a cozy corner with an electric glider, where I can rest, recover, and sleep during those first few nights (or weeks) home.
I shared more about how I created this Cozy Nursing Chair Corner if you want a closer look at this space and how I set it up for both recovery and those long newborn nights.

Give Yourself Grace as You Heal
Recovering from a c-section is just as much about patience and rest as it is physical healing.
There will be moments you feel strong and others where the exhaustion takes over, both are completely normal.
Give yourself permission to slow down, accept help, and embrace this season of recovery without guilt.
The dishes can wait, the laundry will get done eventually, but your healing matters now.
Be gentle with yourself, and remember that every small step forward is progress.
If you’ve been through a c-section, what helped you the most during recovery? I’d love to hear your experience in the comments!
Take it slow & be kind to yourself. You’ve got this. Xoxo- Tandra
