As I’ve been preparing for baby #5, nesting has taken on a whole new meaning. With each pregnancy, I’ve learned that having a dedicated, cozy space for nursing isn’t just a luxury, it’s a lifesaver.

Whether it’s those quiet early morning feedings or the late night snuggles, creating a nursing corner that feels both functional and comforting makes all the difference.

In this post, I’m sharing how I set up my own cozy nursing corner, complete with a comfy chair, personal touches, and all the essentials within reach.

Whether you’re a first-time mom or adding to your growing family, these simple tips will help you create a space where both you can baby can relax, bond, and feel at home.

I hope these tips help you create a cozy nursing nook that makes those late night feedings a little easier, a lot more peaceful, and feels uniquely yours.

1. Find the Perfect Spot

Back in 2016, when I was pregnant with my first, I knew I needed a glider, but that was about the extent of it. I wanted a cozy chair since I had planned to breastfeed.

I tucked it neatly into the nursery, thinking that’s where all the feedings would happen.

Here’s a little throwback to that setup (and yes, feel free to ignore the overly-filtered Instagram look, oh how the times have changed!).

Fast forward to now, with baby #5 on the way, I’ve learned that having a comfortable nursing chair in our bedroom is a game changer.

Those late night feeds? They’ll be happening right where I can settle in comfortably without trekking to the other side of the house to the nursery at 11pm, 2am, and 4am.

Now when you’re planning your nursing corner, think about where you want to be nursing your baby. Is it in your bedroom? Maybe you don’t have the space there and plan to nurse in the nursery or living room.

I actually have taken my original nursing chair that’s pictured above and relocated it to my living room for feedings during the day. Yes, that chair is still going strong almost 10 years later.

Once you decide where you want your cozy nursing corner think about things like natural light.

Both in the nursery in 2016 and now in my bedroom in 2025, I have placed my nursing chair near a window. There’s something calming about being able to look out a window (if possible) while nursing your little one.

2. Invest in a Comfortable Nursing Chair

I wish I could your nursing chair will be one of the cheaper purchases when preparing for baby, but this is I a piece you’ll be spending a lot of time in, so it’s worth every penny to invest in a good one.

In 2021, when I was pregnant with my 4th, I had my trusty Dutailer glider (pictured above) set up in the living room. But with a planned c-section, I knew I couldn’t be climbing the stairs for those middle-of-the-night feedings, so I looked for a second chair for our upstairs bedroom.

I found a cheaper option on FB Marketplace, and while it technically worked, it didn’t come close to the comfort and quality of my Dutailer.

That chair has a special place in my heart. It was gifted to me by my dad during my first pregnancy, and even though Dutailer went out of business in 2023, the company used real wood and their pieces were built to last.

After five pregnancies, I’ve learned that if there’s one thing to splurge on while nesting, it’s the nursing chair. You’ll be spending so much time there, and comfort makes all the difference.

This time around, since I knew I wanted the chair in my bedroom, I made comfort my top-priority, especially those first few nights home after my c-section when getting in and out of bed can be tough.

I wanted a chair comfortable enough to sleep in if needed.

After a lot of research, I ended up choosing the Nurture& Glider Plus, and it’s been perfect.

I love the boucle-style recliner, the texture adds such a cozy, inviting feel to my nursing corner.

Plus, I knew this wouldn’t just be a temporary piece. Even after the baby days are over, it’s a chair I can keep in my room as a comfy reading nook or even to sit and birdwatch out the window.

Mom Tip: Planning to invest in a more expensive nursing chair? Add it to your Amazon Registry! As your due date approaches, you’ll receive a 15% registry completion discount, which you can apply to your purchase and save big.

Things to Consider in a Nursing Chair

  1. Comfort and Support: You’ll be spending a lot of hours in this chair, especially during those nighttime feedings so comfort is key. Look for a chair that has lumbar support and soft but firm cushioning. *If it’s possible test the chair in person to make sure you’re comfortable in it.
  2. Functionality (Glide, Rock, or Recline): Consider how you’ll use the chair. Do you like having a gentle gliding motion, or would a fully reclining option be more comfortable? Maybe a built-in footrest is a must, especially if you’re recovering from a c-section. Some chairs only offer specific features, so it’s important to choose one that meets all your needs for comfort and convenience.
  3. Durability and Quality Materials: Although you may think a nursing chair is just for the baby stage, it can easily become a lasting piece in your home like mine did. Look for chairs that are made from sturdy materials like solid wood frames and durable, easy-to-clean fabrics.
  4. Ease of Cleaning: With a newborn, spills, spit-up, and diaper leaks are bound to happen. Look for fabrics that are easy to wipe down or remove covers that can be tossed in the wash. Stain-resistant materials are a lifesaver, especially in the early days when you’re juggling feedings and diaper changes.
  5. Long-Term Use & Style: Choose a chair that fits your aesthetic and can transition with you beyond the baby phase. A beautiful, neutral design can easily double in a reading nook or cozy corner in your bedroom or living room. If you invest in a chair that blends with your home decor now, it’ll remain a function and stylist piece for years to come.

3. Keep Nursing Essentials Close By

Nursing Drawer Essentials

Now that you’ve picked the perfect nursing chair and found the ideal spot for it, it’s time to make sure you have all your nursing essentials within reach.

In my cozy corner, I keep a nightstand right beside my chair to hold everything I need. But if you don’t have a nightstand, an end table or even a tiered cart works perfectly to keep things organized and accessible.

Nursing Corner Essentials

  1. Water Bottle: With my first nursing chair, everyone suggested keeping water nearby and while that’s great advice, I strongly disliked lukewarm water. Instead of leaving bottles out, I keep a coaster on my nightstand and make sure to fill up my water bottle before bed so it’s icy cold when I need it during those late night feeds.
  2. Nursing Pads: If you’re planning to breastfeed, it’s always helpful to have nursings pads nearby during your nursing session. I keep mine tucked into the second drawer of my nightstand. Leaks can happen and keeping that stash helps save your from middle of the night trips across the house. I keep mine tucked into the second drawer of my nightstand, ready for quick changes when needed.
  3. Burp Clothes: Spit-ups are inevitable, so having a few burp clothes within reach is a lifesaver. I keep several rolled up in the same drawer as my nursing pads for easy access during the middle-of-the-night feeds. This way, I’m not scrambling to find one when I need it most.
  4. Phone Charger: My current chair has a built-in port to charge my phone, but if yours doesn’t an extension cord and charger will be a lifesaver. Whether you’re scrolling during feed or just need a little entertainment during those long nursing sessions, keeping your phone charged and nearby is a must.
  5. Soft Lighting: My nightstand holds a lantern with adjustable lighting, which will be perfect for nighttime nursing. I can dim it low enough to see the baby while feeding without waking my husband. A soft, adjustable light makes all the difference in creating a calm, soothing atmosphere during the midnight feedings.
  6. Snacks: If you’re breastfeeding, you’ll be burning a lot of calories, and trust me, late-night hunger is real. I like to keep a stash of my favorite snacks in the nightstand drawer. Homemade granola bars, oatmeal cookies, and even a few pieces of my favorite chocolates (KitKats & Snickers) are perfect for satisfying those nighttime cravings without having to leave the room.

Having essentials close by makes nursing easier and more comfortable, especially during the early, sleep deprived days. Plus, it turns your nursing corner into a space that feels both functional and cozy.

4. Adding Personal Touches for a Cozy Vibe

When I was setting up this corner, I knew I wanted more than just a functional space for nursing, I wanted a little retreat. A spot that felt calm and cozy, where I could settle in for those quite middle-of-the-night feedings and maybe even sneak in a little me-time during the day.

This boule-style recliner was the first piece that brought my vision to life. The texture adds such a warmth and softness to the space. I love how it feels while you’re sitting in it with the natural light from the windows pouring in.

Cozy Nursing Chair Corner

I placed it beside my nightstand, which holds a few of my favorite things: a framed photo from one of my previous pregnancy (those little belly photos always make me smile), a vintage-style lantern with adjustable lighting, and a simple potted plant that brings a touch of nature indoors.

But I’m not stopping there. I plan to add two shelves on the wall above the chair, where I can display more personal touches, maybe a sonogram photo of baby, or even a candle.

I love the idea of making this space feel layered and personal, like it tells a story of all the moments leading up to this new baby.

What I’ve learned over the years is that it’s the little things, the little details, cozy textures, meaningful decor, and soft lighting, that can transform a space from function to a true retreat.

This corner isn’t just for nursing, it’s a space where I can relax, reflect, and soak in all the special moments that come with bringing a new life into the world.

And when my nursing days are behind me, I know this spot will still be here, perfect for reading, relaxing, and enjoying.

Personal Touches You Can Easily Add To Your Nursing Space

  1. Framed Photos: Add pictures of your family, pregnancy, or special moments that make you smile.
  2. Cozy Throw Blankets: You know I love a good cozy throw blanket and your nursing chair is the perfect spot to drape a soft blanket over the chair for warmth during late-night feeds.
  3. Potted Plants: I’ve added my ZZ Plant to my window but I love finding low maintenance plants to add to any space to make the space feel a bit more calming.
  4. Books: Displaying some of your favorite books is a great way to personalize your space.
  5. Candles: Adding a calming scent like lavender to create a relaxing atmosphere during your nursing session.
