Our Family Halloween Costume Reveal: The Circus Comes to Town
Step inside our Family Halloween Costume Reveal! This year’s theme? A cozy, colorful circus filled with laughter, chaos, and childhood magic.

How My Family Halloween Costume Dream Finally Came True
My first Halloween as a mom, I won’t lie, I was dreaming about family Halloween costumes. But my little guy was only three months old, and it was cold, so we sat that one out. The following year, I was extremely pregnant and honestly didn’t get a chance to plan anything with my husband’s busy work schedule.
In the years that followed, I always threw out the idea of family costumes, but the kids had other ideas, and honestly, their happiness always comes first. Halloween is about fun to begin with, so I figured my dream of coordinating family costumes might never happen.
Until last year.
My youngest daughter spotted a Glinda costume while browsing Target one day, and immediately my oldest said she wanted to be Dorothy. The boys quickly joined in with the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, and suddenly we had a full Wizard of Oz theme! I was so excited that they all agreed on a theme, but I was pregnant again (and battling morning sickness), and my husband’s schedule was still packed, so I decided to let just the kids take the spotlight that year.

Then came this Halloween.
When the kids started talking about costume ideas, they decided they wanted to do a circus theme, which I thought was such a fun twist! They began planning who would be what, and immediately declared that I had to be the ring leader—and Daddy had to be the world’s strongest man.
Did my family Halloween costume dreams finally come true?
The Family Circus Reveal
This year’s theme couldn’t have been more fitting for our crew, The Family Circus!

After years of dreaming about a coordinated costume, it finally happened. Our house turned into a full-blown circus (which honestly isn’t too far from reality most days). Each of the kids picked their own character, and it couldn’t have come together more perfectly.
Our baby made the cutest little monkey. The girls were our dancing Dalmatians, full of energy and sparkle. The danced the night away at our community Halloween in the Park event.
My oldest son took his role as a mime very seriously, though, true to form, he couldn’t stay quiet for long, and our middle son made the most adorable lion, complete with a fluffy mane that he proudly wore all night.
And then there was me, the ring leader, trying to keep the show running smoothly..
My husband was the world’s strongest man, flexing his “muscles” and lifting his dumbbells high for extra giggles from the kids.

We loved celebrating Halloween at our neighborhood Trunk-or-Treat event and got a lot of laughs, candy, and just the right amount of chaos. It was everything a family Halloween should be.
Seeing everyone dressed up together felt like such a full-circle moment.
My dream of family costumes had finally come true, and it was even better than I imagined.
The Magic of Doing It Together
Every year, Halloween feels like a reminder that childhood moves fast, the costumes, the excitement, the sugar highs, the way they run from house to house with so much joy.
It’s one of those nights that feels chaotic in the moment, but looking back, you realize it’s pure magic.
For years, I dreamed of the day we’d all dress up together, but now that it’s here, I see it’s never been about the perfect matching photos or polished costumes.
It’s about the memories being made in between: helping each other get ready, laughing when someone’s costume is on and they are in full character, or hearing the kids cheer each other on as we walk down the street.
This circus might have been our theme this year, but honestly, it feels like a pretty accurate description of life with five kids, loud, full of energy, a little wild, and completely wonderful.
