Supplies You’ll Need

  • Parchment Paper
  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowl (Microwave Safe): You can easily use one mixing bowl and wash then use it again or have two small mixing bowls ready, one for the dark chocolate and one for the white chocolate.
  • Spatula: This makes for easy stirring and spreading of the melted chocolate.
  • Measuring Spoons

Ingredients

  • 8 oz of Dark Chocolate
  • 8 oz of White Chocolate
  • 1 tsp Peppermint Extract (1/2 tsp dark chocolate, 1/2 tsp white chocolate)
  • Crushed Candy Canes

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Melt Dark Chocolate: Spray a microwave-safe bowl with non-stick cooking spray. Add the dark chocolate chips and microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted. Be careful not to overheat.
  3. Add Peppermint Extract: Stir in 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract, then pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it evenly with a spatula and refrigerate for 10 minutes to harden.
  4. Melt White Chocolate: Repeat the process with the white chocolate chips, using a clean bowl sprayed with non-stick spray. Melt in 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  5. Add Peppermint Extract: Stir in the remaining 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract, then pour the white chocolate over the hardened dark chocolate layer. Spread evenly.
  6. Decorate: Sprinkle crushed candy canes over the top as desired.
  7. Harden & Break: Place the baking sheet back in the refrigerator to harden completely. Once set, break the bark into pieces of your desired size.

How to Store Peppermint Bark

Room Temperature

Store your peppermint bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent the chocolate from melting or blooming.

Refrigerator

For longer storage or warmer climates, place the peppermint bark in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving to avoid condensation on the chocolate.

Freezer

If you’d like to store peppermint bark for an extended period, freeze it in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag for up to 3 months. Place parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking. Thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature before enjoying.
