February 2024: Weekly Favorites

February is officially here, or as I like to call it, “heart month” is here.

This last week was one for the books in our house, I spent most of the week sick on our couch. I woke up with the flu on Wednesday and spent most of my time napping on and off while fighting a fever and body aches.

From the warmth of a cozy blanket to the soothing embrace of your go-to tea. I’ll be sharing all my must-have essentials for those sick days and beyond.

Join me as we delve into the world of comforting remedies and cherished items that make getting through the tough times a little bit easier.

Saranoni Blanket

When I’m feeling under the weather, I tend to be really cold. My go-to to keep me warm and cozy is my Saranoni Blanket.

I had a friend recommend this blanket to me 5 years ago when my first daughter was born as a baby blanket. I ordered a pink on for my daughter but when I realized just how soft this blanket was AND that they had adult versions, you bet I ordered myself one.

Last year, when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, I knew I had to send her one of these blankets as well. She also raved about how soft the blanket was.

These blankets are a little on the pricier side but trust me they’re worth it. I’ve had mine for 5 years and it’s still my favorite blanket. My three older kids all have their own Saranoni blankets but I hadn’t ordered my youngest one because they were sold out at Christmas time (which is usually when I gift them).

However, this week my 2 year-old kept stealing my blanket and I’m a good sharer buttttt when you’re sick, you don’t want to share. 😂 I hopped on Amazon and saw that the blankets were back in stock and snagged him his very own blanket.

Constant Comment Tea

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time you are probably already well aware of my love of tea. One of my favorite’s is Constant Comment Tea by Bigelow. It’s a black tea with hints of orange and sweet spices. There’s something so comforting and soothing about this tea. I like to keep both a regular blend and decaf on hand so that I can enjoy it any time of day. I also like to add just a little honey or sugar to sweeten it.

I’ve been drinking this a lot this week to soothe my sore throat.

Alka-Seltzer

I’ve basically been surviving on Alka-Selzter this past week.

Before I met my husband I don’t think I had ever really used Alka-Selzter, I usually just grabbed Tylenol & Sudafed and called it a day.

When my husband was sick he’d always ask for Alka-Seltzer which meant I started keeping it in stock for him in our medicine cabinet. Now anytime I’m sick, this is the first thing I reach for.

Oddly enough, even though we currently live right outside the largest city in the US, I can’t find this stuff at any local stores. I’ve had to order it off Amazon to keep it in stock at our house.

Puffs Plus Lotion & Vicks Tissues

My love for these specific type of tissues is real.

I’m quite the tissue snob. When I’m sick the only type of tissues I want are the Puffs with Vicks. I partially blame it on my bad run with allergies and forever being congested but if you haven’t tried tissues with Vicks. They smell amazing and you’ll never go back to regular tissues. Trust me.

Heating Pad

Last week I shared my heated blanket that I keep on my couch and this week it’s my heating pad. I love having a heating pad to target those body aches.

This also comes in handy for that time of month or if you have a GI bug, the heat feels delightful on your tummy.

Lysol Laundry Sanitizer

I feel like this one doesn’t really need an explanation but when you have 4 kids and 2 of them are school aged, all the germs come home. I keep the lysol laundry sanitizer handy to make sure I’m doing my part to prevent as many germs as I can before hand.

House Slippers

I received these (well the grey pair) for Christmas and they are so cozy and cute. My feet are constantly freezing and although I do now have a favorite pair of warm socks, I still prefer cozy house slippers any day.

I wear these every single day and love them.

Eye Mask

I am a very light sleeper and the slightest amount of light (or noise) will wake me up. I’ve had this eye mask for a couple years now. It is contoured in the perfect places to create a seamless fit along your face to prevent light from coming in.

It was truly a life saver on Wednesday when I had a migraine and the light was making it worse. I laid on the couch with my eye mask on and it helped ease my headache just a bit by blocking all the light.

Stanley Cup

This cup is single handedly responsible for helping keep me hydrated last week. I really dislike drinking water but something about drinking it out of a straw and not a cup made it a little easier. I know it’s some kind of mind game but if I have a water bottle I’ll drink more water than just out of a cup.

Water Dispenser

This one probably seems a little odd on my list BUT there’s a reason I added it.

Our refrigerator doesn’t have a water dispenser and the kids can’t reach our sink. A few months ago I ordered this drink dispenser to keep ice water in on the counter where the kids can reach it.

While I was down for the count on the couch, the kids were able to get as much water as they wanted on their own without me having to get up and help them. Even my two year-old uses this drink dispenser.

I fill it up in the morning and the kids are good to go on helping themselves to all the water they want (or need) during the day.

Favorites from the Kitchen

I’m going to be honest, as much as I love cooking and baking in my kitchen there was very little of that going on while I was sick.

However, there was one recipe we tried last week before I got sick and it was one of those good comfort food meals, a yummy baked ziti.

I’ve always love a good Italian dish and the baked ziti did not disappoint. I have several picky eaters but to my surprise only one complained about this meal and that’s because she doesn’t like red sauce but I’m trying to get her over that.

If you have any recipes you love, send them my way! I like to try at least one new recipe a week with our family just to keep our dinners fun and seasonal.
