Day 7: Puff Pastry Christmas Trees
Day 7: Puff Pastry Christmas Trees 🎄✨
I’ve been seeing so many fun puff pastry ideas floating around social media lately, and I knew I had to try something new this year. Last Christmas, I made a beautiful puff pastry snowflake twist filled with cinnamon sugar and topped with powdered sugar – and while it was a hit, I wanted to mix it up with something even more festive (and just as easy).
Enter these adorable Puff Pastry Christmas Trees! They’re flaky, golden, and filled with strawberry jam – the perfect combination of simple and eye-catching. I love how they bring a little holiday magic to the table with minimal effort. Plus, they’re a great project to make with the kids.
These little trees are perfect for a Christmas morning treat, a holiday dessert board, or even as edible gifts. If you’ve been wanting to try something creative with puff pastry this season, I can’t recommend these enough. They come together quickly but look like you spent hours in the kitchen – and isn’t that the best kind of holiday recipe?
Puff Pastry Christmas Trees Tutorial
Golden, flaky puff pastry filled with sweet strawberry jam and shaped into festive Christmas trees. These treats are simple to make, fun to create, and perfect for celebrating the holiday season. Finish with a dusting of powdered sugar for a snowy touch or a drizzle of icing for extra indulgence.
Supplies You’ll Need
- Christmas Tree Cookie Cutter – Helps shape the puff pastry into festive tree designs for a uniform and charming look. If you don’t have one, a knife works too!
- Baking Sheet – Essential for baking your pastry trees to golden perfection. Lining it with parchment paper prevents sticking and makes cleanup easy.
- Pastry Brush – Used to apply a light egg wash over the pastry, giving it that beautiful golden shine once baked.
- Small Bowl (for Egg Wash) – Perfect for whisking the egg and preparing it for brushing over the pastry.
- Fork – Handy for sealing the edges of the puff pastry to keep the jam filling inside and create a decorative crimped edge.
- Scissors or Knife – Used to cut slits in the top of the pastry trees, allowing steam to escape and ensuring the pastry bakes evenly without puffing up too much.
- These simple tools help bring the holiday magic to life, making the process fun and easy!
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry Sheets (thawed)
- Strawberry Jam (or jam of your choice)
- 1 egg
- Powdered Sugar (for dusting)
- Sprinkles (optional for topping)
- Icing (optional, for drizzling)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
- Whisk the egg and water together in a small bowl to make your egg wash, then set it aside for later.
- Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry until it’s about ¼ inch thick. A rolling pin works best here!
- Grab a 3-4 inch Christmas tree cookie cutter and cut out as many trees as you can – you should get about 8-10 from each sheet.
- Place half of the trees on your prepared baking sheet. Spoon about 1 tsp of strawberry jam into the center of each tree. Then, carefully place the remaining trees on top to sandwich the jam inside.
- Use a fork to gently press the edges of each tree, sealing them shut. Be careful not to press down too hard on the jam – you just want to seal the edges.
- Brush each tree with the egg wash to give them that beautiful golden color when they bake.
- Take scissors or a sharp knife and make a few small slits on top of each tree. This lets the steam escape while they bake. If you’re feeling festive, sprinkle a little green sugar or sprinkles on top!
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the trees are golden brown and flaky. Transfer them to a cooling rack to cool slightly.
- Once cooled, dust them with powdered sugar for that perfect snowy finish. Serve warm and enjoy!
These are such a fun and easy way to bring a little holiday magic to your table. My kids love them – and they disappear fast!

How to Store Puff Pastry Christmas Trees
1. Cool Completely
Allow the hand pies to cool completely at room temperature before storing. This prevents condensation, which can make the pastry soggy.
2. Short-Term Storage (1-2 Days)
• Place the cooled hand pies in an airtight container.
• Line the container with parchment paper and separate layers with additional sheets to avoid sticking.
• Store at room temperature for up to 2 days.
3. Refrigeration (Up to 5 Days)
• For longer storage, place the hand pies in an airtight container or wrap them individually in plastic wrap.
• Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes to restore crispness.
4. Freezing (Up to 3 Months)
• Before Baking: Arrange unbaked hand pies on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag or airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper. Bake straight from frozen, adding 5-10 minutes to the baking time.
• After Baking: Wrap each baked hand pie in plastic wrap, then place in a freezer-safe bag. To reheat, bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
Pro Tip:
Always reheat puff pastry in the oven, not the microwave, to maintain a flaky texture!
